What was once an underused room in the heart of Inverness Library has been transformed into a modern coworking hub thanks to the Scottish Coworking Network.
Gone are the old stacks, spare chairs and desks which cluttered the area. Instead, the room is filled with modern office furniture and a breakout area with refreshment facilities.
The new hub, which officially opens this Monday, is part of a network of coworking locations now open in selected public libraries throughout Scotland.

The aim of the Scottish Coworking Network is to support entrepreneurs and new businesses, offering a mix of fixed and hot desk solutions in libraries throughout Scotland.
In Inverness, SCN members can choose between either a fixed desk which gives them a dedicated permanent workspace within the library or opt for a hot desk they can use when required. They also gain access to professional development events and an online support forum.
Members can use other SCN hubs when they’re on the move too, using hot desks in Edinburgh Central, Dunfermline Carnegie and Troon Libraries.
Membership of the Scottish Coworking Network works on a monthly rolling basis, so members are free to try out the space without worrying about a long-term commitment. Fixed desks are available for as little as £50 (plus vat) a month while hot desks are £35 (plus vat) a month.
The Scottish Coworking Network project ties in well with the aims of Ambition & Opportunity – a national strategy for public libraries in Scotland 2015-2020 which reinforces the role public libraries play in supporting employability, innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity.
